  2. You can’t submit your application until you have at least one recommendation letter in the application system.
  3. Once you submit your application, you’ll get an automatic notification confirming that it’s been received. Make sure your email settings allow messages from the @oist.jp domain so you don’t miss any notifications.
  4. After the application period ends, we’ll review the applications and select candidates.
  5. The results will be announced on your application platform about 3 months after the application deadline. You’ll get a notification when the results are posted. However, sometimes email settings might block our notifications, so please make sure you can receive emails from the @oist.jp domain.
  6. Once internship offers are confirmed, we’ll work with you to make all necessary arrangements. This includes preparing for visas and any other paperwork required by the Japanese government. Your cooperation is crucial to ensure everything is done on time for the internship to begin smoothly.

Eligibility

  1. The OIST Research Internship Program is open to outstanding students who are in the final 2 years of undergraduate or Masters programs at universities, colleges, junior colleges, and vocational schools worldwide, including Japan.
  2. Applicants must either be currently enrolled students or graduates of these institutions, with approval from their home institution if currently enrolled.
  3. The academic background of applicants should align with the research interests of their desired host unit(s) at OIST.
  4. Research interns affiliated with a Japanese university or institution must arrange and provide their own insurance coverage upon acceptance into the OIST Research Internship program.
  5. Acceptable insurance options include the combination of Gakkensai and Gakkenbai, or other insurance policies offering similar coverage.

    • Statement of Purpose:
      • Provide a 400-word statement (2500 characters) via the Statement of Interest form in the online application.
      • Include:

    • Academic Transcript and Diploma:
